Callie I am hoping you read this. You were right this site does not get much action! Missy is our 2 1/2 yr old Sheltie we got in June from a county run animal pound. (not a nice place) We noticed major problems the day we got her home. After 6 trips to the vet, numberous xrays, and blood work her diagnosis is Arthritis. She was on a diet, given Etodolac once a day and Glucosamine Chondroitin suupplements. It worked pretty good till this past week-end when she got in alot of distress and was only using 3 legs. All the xrays showed the right shoulder to be the major limb effected, but it was her left leg she would not use. I went for a 2nd opinion yesterday. This vet agreed with the diagnosis of arthritis, but prescribed prednisone 20 mg 2 times a day for 5 days and then half that amt for 3 wks. She has shown improvment 12 hrs after the first dose. There is still a limp, but she is using all 4 legs. I would like to reduce the amt to half she prescribed. I am really worried about using prednisone after reading up on it. This vet also prescibed a month course of doxycycline even tho her blood work came back negative for Lyme, it is very common around here. Does anyone have any thoughts on all of this, please??
