No. No no no no no. Dear god, no. What he is doing is wrong, and horrible to boot! Professional dog trainer my ass. He has no idea what he's doing. You NEVER force a formerly abused dog. EVER. You don't throw a dog into the crate. You don't isolate the dog- that will make her more uncomfortable in those rooms as she will associate them with the crate and being away from you. Gentle positive reinforcement is the key. All he is doing is making her more scared and she will probably eventually lash out at you- which is not good for anyone. Please, for the sake of the dog, FIND SOMEONE ELSE. You should never 'take your heart out' of training a dog. Dog trainers are actually supposed to put their hearts into it and use compassion and love to teach. That is abuse, plain and simple.
