What a jerk! I wouldn't have anything to do with that "trainer" ever again!! We rescued a black lab named Ruby 5 years ago and it's been a long haul. It took a long time for her to trust people again. She was terrified of my husband at first and wouldn't go near him for two or three months...so she was obviously abused by a guy. She was completey skittish of people (especially men) for about a year but she's much better now. It just takes lots of patience and training (especially patience) Try to get him socialized with lots of other people and dogs, take him to obedience class, take him for lots of leash walks, tether him in the house to get him used to you, and get a new trainer!! Everything will be okay...but gentleness and patience is key. Good luck to you!
