There ARE times when there's no real altearntive -- I live in Florida and in honesty, you just can't allow your dogs to be as drained as they'd become when victim to the really horrible flea populations here.
I've tried every natural thing out there (and I home cook specifically to better their health) -- but fleas happen here. I won't use anything systemic (like Comfortis or Revolution or ProMeris or ProHeart (moxydectin) -- absolutely not. But Advantage and Frontline are still the mildest of all things and certain times of year here, you just plain have to because it's too injurious to their health to have them bitten.
But -- with the use of stuff like DE, I don't have to put the chemicals on *much* and usually not at all in the cooler months.
Good luck with the DE -- and it's really not bad used topically. It wouldn't be my first choice, BUT as an extra measure it's not at all bad.
Good luck!
