A neutered male does not smell like a threat to other male dogs. Therefore, other males are much much much less likely to get aggressive and territorial with a neutered male. Thus, neutering can keep your boy OUT of fights. Because he is small (but does not know that he is!) he could easily be ripped apart by another male whose owner does not have him under control. This can happen with you right there, say, out on a walk, and a loose male dog or two come by. I live in an area with a lot of people who let their unfixed dogs run loose for weeks at a time, and I know that having all mine fixed has averted bad situations many times.
