lots of possible reasons for this, most of them age-related and possibly medical issues. As Callie says above in the case of the little baby puppy, your first resource is your vet. An elderly dog may be prone to UTIs (uriniary tract infections), just as old people are. He may be having having true incontinence for many reasons, any of which could require medical intervention. He may be just having trouble waking up or having trouble getting to his feet - if his old bones are stiff at night. A different bed might be in order. Basically, start at your vet's. If your dog has never had a "senior dog" exam, now's the time.
