Subject:         My Dog Has an Anxiety Problem please help
Date: July 6, 2009 at 5:12 pm PST

This forum was recommended to me by a person on dogster forums.

My dog is a Jack russell terrier mix who just turned 2 years old. I got her when she was 2 months old from a shelter and she's been a wonderful dog, very eager to please.

For the last 2 weeks, she has had anxiety. I can't really pinpoint the exact cause, whether it's separation anxiety or not.

Every day from noon to early evening, my dog shakes, pants, has hair loss and clumps of hair come out, tries to hide or crawl in my lap. She whines but very little and softly. She doesn't bark or yawn like I read were also anxiety symptoms.

This starts off as soon as we get back from our morning walk. The walk lasts about an hour long and she is very happy on the walk, running off leash in the woods and playing with me and my other dog.

As soon as we come back inside her tail goes between her legs and the fear starts.

I've tried changing what I do and ignoring her. It doesn't matter if I'm doing housework, watching TV, reading, computer, etc. She still acts this way. If I move to another room, she frantically follows me.

Today it lasted 5-6 hours nonstop. The vet has been dissmissive when I called about a possible health problem. He just saw her a couple weeks ago because she had a blackfly bite on her stomach that looked like lyme disease to me, but it was just a fly bite and went away in a couple days.

In the evening she acts fine again. I don't go out anymore unless I absolutely have to because she gets worse when I go out it seems. Like when I go out the door, her tail is down and she is so restless.

I ordered alcohol free Bach's rescue remedy for pets today from an online store. I also tried treats that have chamomile and lavendar but they didn't help.

Does anyone have any ideas or help please? I don't know what to do and it seems to baffle dog owners on other forums. I don't know how to help this and it scares me that her anxiety lasts this long so bad that she pants and hair is falling out. Thank you in advance.
