I just am feeling a bit swamped today. All is well, I am just tired and a little stressed by the fact that I have had 7 dogs dumped in my yard in the last 8 days. Lucy is a sweetie chi puppy who loves everyone, Tucker and Murphy are lab mix pups who are already a bit shellshocked by the mean way the world has treated them so far, but are ready to give it another try now that they are safe and fed, Cooper is a scarred, and scared, pit bull who wouldn't hurt a fly and just wants love, Casey is a huge mastiff with the heart of an anxious baby, and now, Sassy and Bandit were - well, not dumped - brought last night by a neighbor child whose parents have just vanished, leaving the twelve-year-old girl in a crumbling trailer with no power or water and with no resources. the dogs are sick and starving. I have them at the vet today. I have the child in my back bedroom and an appointment with DSS this afternoon. I've fostered many many dogs, now I may very well find myself temporary mom to a little girl as well. Which I would absolutely love - this child is so full of brightness and caring, and I am so fond of her. I'd love to help her develop her dreams of being a vet (yes, she reminds me of Jenna at that age)instead of ending up with a baby in the next couple years, as most girls here do. Yeah, I do know what is involved. I did Child Protective Services in inner-city Detroit for 16 years. I have no delusions of waving any magic wands. *sigh* think good thoughts for all my two and four foot babies, eh? hard times are hittin' all around, but we'll get through.
