Hi all! Haven't been here for a while, but I'm taking a break from rescue (good golly, I've got 8 unadoptable dogs lol count 'em, 8! so, a break from rescue is in order) But, I am still promoting and assisting with folks who need to rehome. I'm like 'a rescue coordinator' for a while.

I agree that you should cancel that appt with the trainer. That guy is too rough :(

I did want to add that when you're dealing with your scared doggy, your confidence is everything. The dog will feed off your energy and you MUST be confident in what you're doing so she feels like you've got control, everything will be okay. Even though you're a nervous wreck inside, LOOK CONFIDENT on the outside... calm assertive.

I use the hot dog technique with the skiddish ones. Cut a few hotdogs into tiny pieces and toss her one every once in a while. Make it a NO PRESSURE situation for her, she doesn't have to come to you, don't approach her, just toss her a hunk o' hot dog.

I can't remember who it was, but someone once suggested to me that I spit popcorn at the dog lol I think kernels are bad for them so I recommend cheetos.

And, as Callie said, take it slow. It took Tucker 6 months before he'd come to me. 6 months. He was happy to see me cause I was tossin' cheetos his way, but took 6 months for him to approach me. About a month before I could approach him without him darting.

It takes time. When are we scheduled to go over and kick that trainer's butt? I'm in! :)
