I don't have pic-posting capabilities, but I sure wish I could. Every year, my department at work takes our outgoing interns on a celebratory hike up High Windy or Chimney Rock or Grandfather Mountain, and Max the Amazing Wonderdog, my Chief Dog, is our mascot and always comes along. This time, I brought along two assistant mischief makers. Charlie is a Golden Retriever, the vet says 10-12 years old, and Harry is a 2 year old Australian Shepherd. The curious thing is that both dogs were found on the side of the freeway, both with leg, hip and pelvic fractures from being dumped out of cars at high speed. Both were cases that I brought to my buddy Dr. Kennedy, who started to give me his usual "kinder to put him down" speech, looked at me, shook his head, and got to work in surgery. He cautioned me that neither dog would ever walk well or easily or without pain. Acupuncture, physical therapy, massage, and time... I have at home a picture of the whole crew of us on the top of Grandfather Mountain, Max sitting on my feet, flanked by two very, very happy looking dogs who don't appear "crippled" in the very least. Charlie in particular amazes me - he's an old dog, but doesn't seem to know it! Yay! needless to say, I brought the pic to Dr. Kennedy!
