I adopted a 3 yr. old rescue three months ago and it's obvious she has a lot of Aussie in her. She's not an alpha, but she can play rough at times. In the dog park I have noticed her nipping at the heels and haunches of other dogs, but not badly. This afternoon she nipped at a Corgi and the owner screamed at her, brandished his leash and then screamed at me that another dog who nips had already cost him $400 at the vet, and my dog had better learn. Scared the heck out of me, and although I think he overreacted, I want to correct this behavior before it does cause a real problem. Any training tips that correct Velma's behavior and don't include yelling or punishing her would be appreciated greatly. Thanks!
