Hi there -
I have a new puppy, we've had him for about 3-4 weeks and he is about 11 weeks old. The puppy seems to be having an extra hard time housebreaking - I work from home, so I'm able to keep an eye on him all day, and let him out constantly, but he keeps peeing around the house - what seems like an insane amount. I'll leave the room for a moment and come back to 2 - 3 puddles. On any given day we're cleaning up 10 - 12 pee messes. Sometimes he goes by the door, like he's starting to learn that he wants to go out, but then I'll find messes everywhere else in the house. Even after we let him out, as soon as we set him down back inside he pees (luckily we have tile or else this would REALLY be even a worse problem!). A lot of times it seems like he doesn't even know he's doing it - I don't know if he might have a UTI (can male puppies even get them?) or if he's just having a really hard time learning? I did hear that puppies can get fixated on going on certain surfaces, and maybe he fixated on the tile? But how do you fix this? I've had dogs all my life (I know all the traditional training techniques - when to scold, when to praise) and have never had such housebreaking issues..... any ideas?!! :(
