as a guideline for references meant "experience caring for animals" or "her dog is well cared for" or some such thing, and not "ever known her to do drugs", "ever seen her drunk", "ever seen her loose her temper".

Ah, what a sheltered life I've lead, I guess. Although I would have picked different references if I'd known it didn't matter if the person had ever seen me around animals... I put down Chammy's doggie day care owner, who probably thinks I am a little emotionally unstable from how much effort I went to in getting Chamois settled there. (But, Chamois' last two experiences were stressful, we were in the middle of moving and it paid off... she loves to go there).
