Can I ask what sort of 'discipline'? In today's dog jargon, that phrase honestly can be a loaded gun.
Discipline to one person means a cool look and putting the dog in 'time out' rather than giving in. To another person 'discipline' may mean other aversive methods -- from a prong collar to restraint. To another person 'discipline' may mean spanking or physical 'punishment' (and that's another one of those loaded gun words.
Some folks are devoted followers of Ceasar Milan. Other's wouldn't give him standing room on a crowded cliff and prefer completely 'positive' methods.
Tell us please what specific sort of situation you are referring to -- specifics about the dog (how old, sex, neutered/spayed/intact, how long you've had the dog and what it's background is), as well as specifics about the situations you're referring to.
See, behaviorists and trainers come in all shapes and sizes AND they come in all sorts of background as to what *their* feelings are about training, discipline, and positive or negative reinforcement.
