| | Subject: | DANGEROUS & URGENT: dog chases trucks | |
Date: | October 7, 2006 at 8:55 am PST |
I bought Zeke, a Golden Chow about 85 pounds, from Grateful Dog Rescue about 7 months ago. 2 vets think he is 1-1/2 years old NOW and, except for a handful of days and nights, we are always together. This has been an extreme learning experience for me, mostly, because my time with animals (dogs, cats, pigs, goats, chickens, horses, et al) was on a mountaintop and NOT in town. Completely different and definitely no where near as potentially dangerous as "in town". Here's my URGENT situation: I live right off a very fast, busy street and, although, I keep Zeke on a leash, mostly because he loves to chase the neighborhood cats, on occasion he has bolted barking at a passing truck or car and, if he catches up with it, jumps at the window. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS and he could easily be killed or worse. We have had some training and, although he has "selective hearing" while chasing cats, he gladly reponds to "come". But while he is chasing vehicles he is barking and doesn't hear me calling him. I do not want to wait for something awful to happen. ANY ADVICE IS SINCERELY APPRECIATED. Karen
