what you can do I have had the same problem before is very slowy and carefully open up the cage then disconnect the part where the babies are and put it in the cage with lid open that way mama can pick up the babies and carry them so you don't touch her or the babies the other option is just let her and babies be put a bunch of beddin under tube so if fall it is cutioned mama will move them if in danger if you touch her or babies she will kill them. don't touch babies for about 6 days give her protein hard boiled egg cheese ect. that will reduce her killing them as well. and give clean water. reduce going by the cage tapping on it ect...for at least 6 days only time should go by there is to give food and water. I know it is exciting for kids but you don't want her to kill the babies in front of your kids which they do do if the are bothered. all the info i have given you works I had the same thing happen to me when i was in collge. another thing you may want to by 2 more houses for hamster because of crouding and playing...bird cages work well when babies get there sight.
