I have been using the koehler method of training and it works great. You put on a choke collar so that the pull is across the top of the neck and holding it firmly, with the dog on your left, start walking. Don't stop nomatter what, even if you do have to drag your dog. Don't talk to your dog. Keep going through the yelps etc. It won't take very long before the dog will be glad to get up and follow you. Then you can stop and pet your dog. Start again and repeat until you can go without having to drag anymore. Then, if your dog pulls on the leash...again, say nothing, just turn the other way abruptly and go on. This teaches the dog to waych you and pay attention to you, not the neighbours etc. Whenever you stop the dog should sit and that's your chance to reward the dog. ( I carry dog treats). This method may sound a little harsh, but it's not. The dog is much happier knowing you are the leader, and if it learns to walk on the leash, yhink of the fun you can have. This should work in about twenty minutes. Then quit...unless you are training a puppy, then five minutes ata time is plenty.
