1) Medical issues/infection, etc. Time for a checkup.

2) Clean box or litter issues. Did you change the brand of litter lately? Some cats like it TOTALLY clean all the time and LOTS of litter so they don't step in anything. Also, keep the box close by the bedroom, maybe in the bathroom.
