Here is a link that compares the top ingrediants of pet foods - not sure if it includes prescription ones or not. I have a cat that had crystals - nothing like your guy but he enjoys eating a product called Methigel. I order it from a mail order catalog and it says in the catalogs to either feed a urine acidifying diet or use this tyoe product but don't do both. My vet says that the methigel is like giving someone with a uti cranberry juice. You may want to ask your vet about using something like that. With the skin itchies - I also used the Sensible Choice with excellant results for a cat with itchy scaly skin. ( only the calories are more dense than in some other foods - I fed too much; cat got overweight. then he tasted the other cat foods and decided that he really enjoys eating things that make him itch!)The SC chicken and rice made with minimal ingrediants comes in both dry and canned. Anyways, you obviously have to control the main medical problem first. However, if they create a second problem, maybe you can find an alternative treatment. You can use Vitamin C to acidify the urine ( if that is the objective of the diet),In that case, you would use ascorbic acid form. Hope he feels better!
