Hi, I have a cat that is almost 2 now. She started freaking out whenever she ate her food early this year. She was obviously having some sort of mouth problem. My vet put her out and checked her mouth thoroughly. Nothing. Then he tested her for feline leukemia virus since that produces weird symptoms sometimes. It came up positive.

After the initial devastation, thinking she was going to die, I ended up treating her like I treated myself: clean food, boost the immune system, extra vitamins and minerals. I had a really bad case of CFS for years and am finally getting over it. In my studies about food, I came to realize that most commercial pet foods are unhealthy - no different than our own junky foods.

I started giving her transfer factor from 4 Life, premium specialty cat foods like from trilogy, vitamin powder and red meat. I cook beef for her, rare, and that has stopped the "freaking out" when she eats. She loves it, always gobbles it right up. Once in awhile, she gets some trilogy canned food or some canned sardines or tuna.

She is doing much better, has gained weight and seems to be okay though she still drools a bit. We did a mouth culture on her and one of the regular mouth bacteria was at a higher than normal level. It just means her immune system isn't working perfectly. That's what FLV does - messes with their immune system.

I think Kali can last a good, long while like this as long as I continue with the healthy food. Maybe you guys should get the cats tested for the FLV. It's not a death sentence unless you continue to feed them crappy food like Friskies, Whiskas, etc. I know that digestion is everything (in animals and in humans) and cats shouldn't eat things they can't digest - especially sick ones. They need actual food, not pet foods with lots of fillers and carbs. Plus the stuff is overcooked.

Incidentally, my mom keeps having her dobermans die of cancer after they are about 10 years old. I've told her it's because of the same food she keeps giving them - Pedigree - but she won't listen. This has happened to all four of the ones she's had.
