Cancer is a common disease in cats just as it is in humans. I'm
sure an unhealthy diet can contribute just as it can with humans. I
doubt water has anything to do with it.

The top two preventable causes of cancer in cats I think are viruses
and failure to fix. I rescued a stray kitten born with latent FeLV
which later died of cancer. FeLV and FIV both greatly increase risk
of cancer. It's preventable through vaccination and keeping the cat
indoors and away from potentially infected cats.

The other factor is keeping the cat intact. Especially nonspayed
females are much more likely to develop breast or reproductive
cancer.

Other than that, I don't have much to contribute. Feeding a healthy
diet is always a good idea. I do not like the idea of a raw food diet
and would have to take vet's advice about that. The risks are real
and the purported benefits have not been proven.

I would rather feed my cat vegan food to the extent that it is
healthy (which is possible with females) and the remainder with
relatively wholesome foods like Pet Promise (which avoids factory
farmed meat). I also prefer mainly fish-based meat foods over
chicken and chicken over cow/lamb/other mammals, avoiding the
"higher" animals.
