I know that you probly already have an answer for this, but I just wanted you to know that birds have a poor sence of smell and will not abandon the babys it if you touch it. Yes, the parents will throw out any babys with a disavange for survival. At this time, im am taking care of a baby mocking bird that was thrown out of its nest at a very young age because of a peice of string got around its leg and the parents senced that something was wrong with him and his sibling, that sadly died. You can feed them baby bird feed that you can get at a pet store. Hopefully this will help for next time:) good luck!
