| | Subject: | Robin Born... With White Wings? | |
Date: | August 28, 2008 at 2:44 pm PST |
So my brother brought me home three newborn baby robins almost three weeks ago. They did fine and are now almost ready to fledge. However, the smallest of the three piqued my interest when the waxy covering over her wing feathers flaked off and... the feathers beneath were white. They're black near the roots, but the rest are white! One brother is normal while the other has the white highlights, but the midget definitely has the whitest wings. It's absolutely incredible and something I have never seen in my nine years of rehabbing. Anyone have any ideas why this may be? She's not albino, nothing else adds up to that. I'm thinking maybe she's some kind of hybrid because their other feathers look strange to me. I know they're robins, but they seem to be something else, too. I'm not sure. I'm consulting with my vet tomorrow and I'm curious to hear what she says. Tell me your ideas or if you've heard of anything like it! =] -Mira
