A House Finch built a nest in the wreath on my front door, and laid five eggs. She dutifully sat and the father came to feed her, and all was well. The birds hatched (3 of them) a week ago, and all week both the mother and father have been feeding the babies. They are now nicely feathered, but the mother has been gone for about eight hours now. We never use the door. It is on a covered porch, and I put caution tape across so nobody would come up to the porch. It has worked wonderfully 'til now. I'm afraid for my little baby birds. They are all snuggled up together, but what should I do - and when?
