I found a baby mockingbird... a cat had it in its sights... the mother AND father were in a tree above going nuts... after trying time after time to get the bird back in its nest... i cleaned the bird... then put it in a bird cage with no top... the bird can jump like crazy... but cannot fly... i have been feeding it baby bird formula for days now and leaving it in the garage during the day and the mother comes n and visits the baby... THE BIRD IS ALWAYS HUNGRY... i came on to see what kind of bugs to feed the baby.. he does love apples however... he makes a mess when he eats.. and is very messy on the cage as well.. i have an indoor bird and i could not bring myself to endanger my pet bird due to the outdoor dangers of a wild bird...(mites/lice)... i gave the bird a bath and sprayed it with bird (mites/lice) spray being careful to avoid its eyes... nose... and mouth... i sprayed the cage it is in as well and change it four times a day... i would NOT recommend feeding the bird everytime it cries... no matter if it begs you for food or not... keep the bird on a schedule... the bird WILL eat even if it is not hungry... for the young bird i would suggest getting some bird formula and seringe... mix the formula with water... fill up the seringe with the mixture... feed the bird on the left side of its throat... as it breathes on the right side... there should b a small bag on the side of its neck... when you see the bag is full.. quit feeding it... if you dont...one of two things will happen... either the food will go right through the bird and it will poop TONS.... or... the sack and possibly its stomache will rupture which n the end will kill the bird... baby birds eat food that the parent has brought to them already eaten and in the parents stomache... the mother will regergitate the food into the babies mouth... so... im not quite sure how just killing an insect and trying to feed it to the baby would work... meal worms are good for birds.... take the head off and feed.. but dont take the head off until you are feeding the bird... many pet stores carry meal worms... as well as baby bird formula and the seringe or dropper... now.. i came on to see what kind of bug to feed older birds.. and i still dont know... lol.. but that is what to feed the babies and how to...
