Subject: How do I know if my parakeet is going to lay eggs?
Date: July 5, 2004 at 5:39 pm PST

I'm sorry if I'm repeating anything talked about here, I just roamed onto this site today while looking for information. My husband and I went away for the weekend and when we came back our female parakeet had a 'puffed' chest. She 'looks' pregnant. Is this how I could know? What's odd is I've had a male and female parakeet for years (even before my husband and I met) - I've had them AT LEAST 7 years, and no eggs were ever produced. When I moved in with my husband almost 2 years ago, I brought my two birds down with his one male . . . and now she looks pregnant? Is this possible? Or is there a disease I should be worried about her having? She just has a puffed out chest (as a pregnant woman would a stomach). Any advice? We ran out and bought a nest and nesting hair just in case . . . I've raised finches but never parakeets? HHEELLPP?!
