It is normal for you to start 2-3 days after the sugar pills start. That is the time your body needs to adjust and then start. It can be slightly different depending on your own body, but many people do start in the 2-3 day range. As far as the pregnancy part, you should be safe during that time frame. However, anything is possible. (this applies to even the times you are on the real pills). The pills are not 100% effective, but they are close. You can help minimize the risk by taking your pill at the same time everyday and never missing one. I would suggest using additional means of protection when you are on antibiotics or if you've missed a pill or had the flu where it could have left your body without being absorbed. Also, remember that the pill does nothing about std's. I am not a dr. so you might still want to refer to yours. I am just someone who was on the pill for 7 years and learned a lot during that time...
