so underneath the lip on the inside, the mesh buldges slightly away from the lip and stuff gets caught in there.

The ones you posted look promising, though. Wish it said how fine meshed they are. Locally, I can find only mesh ones like I had or solid metal/plastic ones with (big) holes.
