| The mission of VegSource is to offer the most up to
date health and diet information possible, and to encourage the many good reasons for a
plant-based diet. We do this by sponsoring leading authorities and organizations and
promoting their critical message. Most importantly, our mission is to provide 24-hour-a-day support via discussion boards, live chats, and e-mail to help you implement the critical information you learn into your everyday routine. |
A recent survery
found that 37% of Internet users go browsing But what are they finding? Not as much information as misinformation. Consider some important facts: |
| A high-fat, animal-based diet is the single most significant cause of death from heart disease. (2) | 40% of the world's cancer cases could be prevented through the adoption of diets rich in grains, fruit and vegetables. (3) |
| A fatter, less active America has helped push diabetes to its highest levels yet in the United States. (4) | Every 12 minutes someone dies from breast cancer. Yet women who eat as few as two servings of vegetables per day reduce their breast cancer risk by 30%. (5) |
| Most cases of osteoporosis have nothing to do with inadequate calcium intake. They are caused by overly rapid calcium loss caused by animal protein, sodium, caffeine, tobacco and inactivity. (6) | |

At VegSource, we believe there's a lot more to vegetarianism than what you put in your mouth . . . As founders of this site, my wife, Sabrina, and I were vegetarians before we had our own children. Now that we are parents, we've become even more aware of the world around us. Does it sound selfish to say that we want the world to be a better place for our kids (and grandkids)? Most everyone wants that.We believe that being a vegetarian is a good start. It's a healthier way to live physically, as well as ethically and (dare we say?) spiritually. If you can teach a child from the very beginning to be kind to animals -- the weaker links in our society (and that doesn't just mean not pulling on their tails or yanking on their ears, but also not killing them ) -- then it's not such a huge leap that they'll grow up to be people who are kinder to human animals, as well. This site is not just for vegetarians, but also for people who are making the transition to becoming vegetarian, or who are open to considering it.And you might want to consider it. Just ask Sabrina how she beat an "incurable" auto-immune disease called Relapsing Polychondritis by adopting a vegan diet. Ask Dr. Ruth Heidrich (one of our experts) how she beat breast cancer the same way. Or ask any of the thousands of people who happen through our site every day how a diet- and life-style change saved or improved their own health. VegSource is not a vegetarian caste society where the vegans are better than the lacto-ovos, who are superior to someone else who eats some kind of meat.Everyone is welcome here, and included in everything. In addition to the noble and humanitarian reasons for VegSource's existence, there is another equally important reason for this site -- having fun! (Not to mention some of us were forced to start our own board because there's a lot of snotty intolerance on the 'Net, and that's not us.)Come one, come all! We want to get to know you better!Jeff Nelson

| "Health
is not something the doctor can apply to you like calamine lotion. Health
is something you do on a daily basis, and making wise decisions at the
dinner table is one of the best things you can do to assure your health." -- Michael Klaper, M.D. |
