Hey Marty.

Sorry to hear about your coronary heart disease. I've been on the Esselstyn program for seven weeks and doing great. I avoid the veggie burgers with ingredients you posted because they contain oil (corn oil) and egg and milk products. When you get the book you'll soon learn that two of Doctor Esselstyn's repeated points are (1) a little bit does hurt and (2) the key to success is paying attention to the details. You are on the right track by reading the ingredients with regard to paying attention to the details, but oils, egg products and dairy of any kind (including skim milk) are eliminated entirely from the Esselstyn program. It took me about two to three weeks after reading Essylstyn's book about three times to grasp and employ fully the details of the program. Until then here are his rules, to get you by:

(1) You can not eat any meat or fish or egg products. Esselstyn puts it like this:
You may not eat anything with a mother or a face." (2) You cannot eat any dairy products, including low fat/skim milk cheeses or skim milk); (3) you cannot eat any kind of oils, including olive, cannola or safflower oils. I avoid anything and everything that says it has ANY kind of oil in it. (4) You can eat any and all vegetables, except avocadoes which are rich in fat. (5) you can eat any and all fruits. (6) You can eat any and all whole grain products including whole grain breads, cereals, pasta products, etc. Avoid refined grains etc.

Some tips that have helped me

(1) Lightlife soy hot dogs are a staple for my lunch. I put them on whole grain hot dog buns (from Wild Oats), slathered with a little stone ground mustard, organic ketchup, organic barbeque sauce onions and Nasoya fat free mayonnaise. The Nosoya fat free mayo is also a key ingredient for my homemade salad dressings, sandwich spreads, etc. It's hard to find but I get mine at Wild Oats.

(2) I use all the Ezekiel bread lines which I can purchase at my local grocery story in the health food section (Kroger) or at Wild Oats. Thier raisin bread makes great toast in the morning.

(3) I use Ezekiel raisin bran cereal, along with Grape nuts, shredded wheat and cinnamon shredded wheat.

(4) For breakfast I eat either Bob's Scottish Oatmeal or Steel Cut oats for breakfast nearly every morning, along with toast (Ezekiel raisin ) and some Polner's all fruit jam on the toast.

(5) I use Westsoy Vanilla and plain NONFAT milks for my cereals and mix with a little water on ice for a beverage.

(6) Whole mushrooms with barbeque sauce and baked potatoes, along with baked or steamed aspargus make a great dinner item. So does whole grain pastas with no oil pasta sauce (which can be hard to find. I use 365 no-fat pasta sauce, again from Wild Oats).

(7) Hummus with no tahini (oil) makes a great replacement for sour cream on baked potatoes.

(8) For snack food I pop popcorn - in an air popper - and then mist it with a little water mister so a little salt will stick, to give it flavor. Be careful with salt if you have high blood pressure. I don't have high blood pressure.

Anyway, just some staple items that I employ and enjoy, and which have helped me to reduce my cholesterol from 212 seven weeks ago to 71 this past week. When you get Esselstyn's book there are a lot of great recipies and ideas in it, as well as a list of safe products (at the back of the book) and stores and websites you can check out so you'll know where to go to get the goods that will save your life. In the mean time check out Dr. Pickney's Healing Heart Recipies at this site. Alot of great recipies and ideas here.

God bless and I hope this helps you. And best of luck with your new way of eating to live.
