We recommend keeping one's fat intake at 10% of calories or less. The amount of fat one eats will be determined by the number of calories one consumes, so counting grams of fat for any meal would mean one also knows the total calories it contains.
As for sugar, a small amount is usually not a problem, but too much can be detrimental to reversing heart disease. Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn says, "Too much sugar spikes blood glucose resulting in an insulin surge which stimulates the liver to produce more cholesterol."
If you must eat candy, why not the try sugar-free types?
