Hi Ricardo,

I am buoyed by your enthusiasm and success with the program. I have been following Dr E. for over 4.5 years and am amazed at the results. Before I was 325lb and had extremely high BP and Cholesterol. After my first year on the lifestyle, lost 125 pounds and am now at 192 (6'1""). Although I didn't have heart disease, was looking at it I am sure as my father has it and I yo yoed my weight for most of my life. My Cholest is now HDL 53 LDL 81 and TRI 130 this without satins ever. Although I tried Ornish over 10 years ago and lost 85 lbs, I gained all of it back and then some because of some the things he allowed (occasional teaspoon of Ice Cream, small sq of chocolate and dairy). These foods were enough to put me over and continue my craving cycle. (I also lost a lot of regard for Ornish with his latest book Spectrum. I feel appealing to the masses in this case might be diluting his earlier work no matter that he does say the original 10 per cent VLF diet is the best approach).

The genius behind Dr E is his credo "Moderation Kills". How true. I found that only his approach worked for me as I stopped all the cravings and am so satisfied with the food choices this diet offers. Am looking to my 5 year anniversary this August which experts say is a significant milestone in the reversal process.

Another Dr who is not mentioned that much here is Dr Gabe Mirkin (http://drmirkin.com/). He was early advocate of VLF(very low fat) diet although he allows fish and dairy. However he fully supports vegetarians. Check out his earlier book "Fat Free Flavorful" for some great discussion as well as terrific VLF recipes which have a large offering of plant based dishes. Also his website has a large store of recipes as well.

One of the recipes that I enjoy and cook is his variation of Feijoada. Since you are from Brazil, I would welcome to hear how you prepare it in VLF fashion.

Continued Success,

Best,

Herman
