Hypothyroid Symptoms But...

QuestionI have mystified several other doctors with my symptoms, but thought maybe you might have another perspective or a different suggestion. I have all the hypothyroid symptoms incl. a long family history of the disease. I have had my thyroid tested repeatedly. The diagnosis was depression.

Anti depressants have helped the fatigue a bit and I have more ambition but seem to make me less tolerant to cold, which is my biggest complaint ...even after 45 minutes of exercise. An hour (sometimes less) later, I am cold and tired again. I feel "dull headed" also. I have some muscular twitching (in my eyelid) as well. I stopped consuming dairy products almost a year ago and my skin is still dry (almost eczema like).

One doctor put me on dessicated thyroid and it also helped a little. If I take more of it, I get jittery. Any suggestions you could give me would be appreciated.

AnswerSince your thyroid function tests are normal, I feel that you probably do not have hypothyroidism. Simple depression may be the answer, as your doctor suggested, but it seems that your physical symptoms are somewhat excessive for this. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is another possibility, but not easily proven by diagnostic proceedures. There are several doctors in the country who are considered experts in CFS. As your physician about this and possibly for a referral. Also, there are lots of internet support groups and web sites for CFS. Just search under the words Chronic fatigue Syndrome.
