Zone Reprise

QuestionI read your article on the Zone Diet.  Must say I wonder if you read the book. You say that Sears recommends high fat. Not what I read. How is 30% high and 20% fat low? What I can tell you is vegetarian is not the answer for everybody. I tried it for 4 months and never have I been more tired or miserable. Felt good the first 30 days and after that I could not get enough protein out of the vegs.

AnswerYour problem is likely too much protein, not too little. I've quoted 6 studies in my book which document onset of coronary heart disease or progression on existing heart disease on 30 percent fat calories. This does not happen with 20 percent or lower, which requires a vegetarian diet.

If you've read my article on The Zone, you know my reasons for calling it a high fat, high protein diet. Actually is the same diet most people already eat. And it's led to the greatest epidemic of coronary heart disease in world history.
