When to first see a dentist?
At what age to you
suggest that parents take their children for their first
visit to the dentist? Is my two-year-old ready for a
dental checkup?
I would say that your
two-year-old is certainly ready for a routine dental
examimation. At this age, they already have about 20
teeth, and often already have tooth decay.
Actually, I feel that whenever the first teeth appear,
between 6 months and one year, is an ideal time to make
the first dental visit. The upcoming 1998 edition of Dr.
Spock's Baby & Child Care will contain, for the first
time, a chapter on early dental care.
